also, since i’m sure people are going to have questions:
- Deathwatch () is a Gay Prison Movie in which Leonard Nimoy plays a guy, Jules, who has a crush on his cellmate, Green Eyes (a guy who considers himself straight). His other cellmate, Maurice, is sexually involved with Green Eyes. Jules and Maurice clash and bicker over their man.
- This isn’t subtext, by the way. This is a clip with actual gay advocacy, which came out during a very homophobic era.
When it first came out, it was banned in many places. For this reason, it remains an obscure piece of media even today. - The only place I could find this film was on Youtube, where it’s split into 10 parts. The quality of the film itself is not very excellent, it doesn’t appear to have ever been remastered. It’s also possible that the production itself wasn’t good. I noticed while making my gifs (and while watchin

Star Trek is probably one of the first nerdy shows that I ever experienced. I cant recall a time when I wasnt watching the Star Trek original series (TOS). I remember, specifically, asking my father why Spock wasnt captain instead of Kirk. It was probably very obvious from my fathers perspective that I had a little bit of a crush on the dashing and mysterious Vulcan as a youngster. But mostly I think of when I was a little older, sitting at the dinner table with my mother, and she would tell me all she knew about Star Trek. Like me, my mother was fascinated with the Vulcans, and Spock in particular. She told me about little details she loved seeing in the TV shows and the movies, and she would tell me about the stories in the Trek novels she had read that expanded on Spocks past and on Vulcan culture. My mom recently passed away this past October after a terrible battle with breast cancer. She was a big nerd like me and she is probably at least partly the reason I am taking the recent death of Leonard Nimoy so hard.

I live animation as Clark Kent, but Id rather be Rita Hayward.
Those are the words that caught Leonard Nimoys attention. I did not believe that I had a shot, and I really didnt want to forward the usual resume. So, I boiled everything down to those words. And, I thought nothing more of it.
You can imagine my surprise when I was chosen by Mr. Nimoy to be one of the subjects of his book Secret Selves. I didnt sleep for a week. All I kept thinking was that I was going to be spending the evening with Mr. Spock.
I had spent a good part of my youth idolizing and looking-up to the character that Mr. Nimoy had made so famous: Mr. Spock, the science officer of the Starship Company. That was the only image that I could combine to, the Alien, a stranger in a strange ground. I knew we were of the same blood. We shared the alike experiences, felt the same isolation. We both hid our emotions and lived our lives reflecting what everyone expected of us.

Mr. Spock is gay sort of (Zachary Quinto comes out)
Posted inarts+entertainment, InstanTEATagged: cult tv, economic meltdown, gay men, Heroes, mr spock,I pride myself on pretty good gaydar, so I was slightly surprised today when I heard Zachary Quinto — who played Syler on the cult TV show Heroes (which I didn’t like) and was cast as Mr. Spock in the Star Trek reboot last year — has officially approach out as gay.
I realize quite a few gay men who will be excited by this news.
Quinto’s next onscreen roll is the lead in Margin Call, a drama about the economic meltdown, due out Friday. Good timing.
