A Wedding for the Girls and the Gays
When we inquire newlyweds to reflect back on what they wanted most for their massive day — and we’ve interviewed hundreds of them over the years — the most shared response is “For it not to feel like a wedding!” Gathering with old friends and eating mini grilled cheeses in formalwear to celebrate cherish feels more particular these days than ever, even downright miraculous. And the betrothed have never been less attached to the aged wedding handbook — or the demand to please their great-aunt. For the answers, we decided to interrogate the cool couples whose weddings we would actually want to steal, right down to the tiger-shaped cake toppers.
Here, we spoke with Hayley Anthony, a UX designer, and Kayla Hanson, a software engineer, who married this past June after meeting in at a reading series hosted by a small flatten focused on transsexual topics. Their wedding-planning philosophy was simple: Find great people, and trust them to do a great job. I first spoke with Tony over the phone months and months before their wedding day. He told me how he and Tom had met, and directed me to their amazingly adorable wedding website. The thing about lgbtq+ weddings is this: they are STUNNING and the dancefloor always rocks. Richie and Matts metallic-themed summer wedding was no exception. The grooms wore light from head to toe, the wedding party glittered in tones of silver and gold, and their guests dressed the part as well. Also: they also knew how to party. This was such a gorgeous day. I met Richie and Matt at another clients wedding (you can see Josh and Blakes beautiful vineyard wedding here.) They stuck out in my memory for absolutely tearing up the dancefloor (and making fantastic photos for me in the process.) When they reached out, I was excited to see what theyd come up with for their big day. It was a perfect premature September day. The weather warm but not insanely hot, and the sky and water in Glastonbury was that deep cerulean we all dream about in the gray of winter. The ceremony was held out on the river, cocktail hour was on the balcony, and the reception (which was a riot) was upstairs inside. With all of Summer Tahoe gay wedding
